LEAGUE REPRESENTATIVE HONOURS

The three FA county associations to which our member clubs are affiliated have over the years organised annual competitions between the Northern County associations, which included Lancashire and Cheshire in the early years and were joined by Manchester later.

 

These games were a cornerstone for players to be considered for selection to represent England at amateur international level.

 

The only player from the League to achieve this honour was Norman Jones from Aldermere. The step from county selection was to play for an FA XI and a number of players achieved this distinction.

 

Unfortunately, the interest in the competition lost some of its impetus with the abolition of amateur status in the game and the county associations looked to member clubs to represent their county to save with administration.
