League History
TRIBUTE TO JOHN R. HOWARD
Formed in 1909, the league is one of the largest traditional open-age Saturday afternoon open age men’s leagues in the country, providing competitive matches in a sporting manner.
In recognition of the League’s centenary, John Howard meticulously researched each season since formation into a published history of the L&C, ‘The First One Hundred Years – A History of the Lancashire and Cheshire Amateur Football League 1909-2009’.
This online history owes John’s work a great debt and acts as a tribute to the years of hard work and dedication that burst out of every page and will follow the structure of the book.
Additional content and information will be added to these pages, including photographs, biographies of key figures, league tables, club histories, etc.
We hope you enjoy reading through our proud history, the legacy of which drives the current Management Committee on to ensure the continued success of the L&C into a second century.
The L&C pioneered the Respect Charter in 2002, and in 2007 the FA adopted Respect, the L&C were a Pilot League.
The L&C were among the first Leagues in the country to achieve FA League Charter Standard and were awarded an FA Bronze Award in 2013.
