Chris Carney

Updated: 2 hours ago

It was with great sadness that we learned of the passing of Chris CARNEY on Tuesday after a long and brave fight with cancer.

Chris's dedication to his football club and community is legend, Salford Victoria providing football to generations of Salfordians whilst his many decades of service to the 53rd Boys Brigade since joining the organisation as a boy is incalculable.

His work for young people and single-mindedness in creating opportunities for their development and wellbeing cannot be exaggerated.

A lifelong supporter of the original Red Devils, Chris got to see Salford RLFC rise again last week

The outpouring of tributes on social media bears witness to the love, affection and admiration in which Chris was held not just in Salford, but way beyond as a teacher, referee and passionate advocate for grassroots football.

Chris will be missed by so many and leaves behind a rich legacy rooted in his fundamental belief in the value of community,

Our thoughts are with Janet, Rachel and all Chris's family and friends at this sad time.

RIP Chris
