Didsbury FC retained the Whitehead Cup in style by beating Prestwich Marauders 6-0 in the final.

The all-Division A contest went the way of the team flying high in the division, who made sure they maintained their grip on a trophy that was first played in 1948.

The standout performer of the game played at West Didsbury and Chorlton FC was Jessie Armando who bagged hat-trick, the first strike of which set the holders on their way early on.

Didsbury kept up their momentum with some slick team play and were denied by some determined defending by Marauders and several saves for their outstanding keeper Dylan Bailey until the final minute of the half when a stunning strike from Charles Smith doubled the Didsbury lead.

A slick double from Armando put Didsbury out of reach early in the second half as he completed his hat-trick.

The six-hit was concluded with cracking goals from James Tate and  Alex Newman to see Didsbury retain their trophy.

The medals to both teams were presented by L&C President James Keeley who complimented both teams and the officials and of course the host club for making this an excellent evening promoting good grass roots soccer.

The Whitehead Cup was presented to Didsbury to set off the usual celebrations.

The evening also supported the charity Prostate Cancer organised by L&C EDI officer Ann Evans and raised over £120.

The next night saw the NWILC Semi-Final between Trafford Reserves and Hazel Grove.

Trafford kept up the great form that have showed throughout the season in division one as they took on Premier Division high-flyers Hazel Grove. A close game ended 1-1 at the break with both teams adding to their tally before Trafford added two late goals to book their final against LAL’s Winstanley St Aidans.

Netting for Trafford were Rob Watson (two, one penalty), Ollie Irwin and Amjed Mohamed.
