Trafford United celebrate twenty year anniversary

Trafford United held an event attended by players past and present to mark the club’s 20th anniversary.

The seven-a-side tournament, held at Didsbury SC, was a spirited affair that celebrated this significant landmark for the club who have two teams in the L&C – in the Premier Division and Division Two respectively.

Featuring current and past players, the tournament featured five teams, played in a competitive but friendly spirit.

After the league was completed the top four teams played semi-finals which both went to a penalty shoot out to decide the finalists.

The semis and the final all had L&C refereeing legend John Melia in charge and he did his usual excellent job with a close final won by Bayer Leverkusen 2-1 over Green Park Rangers.

The trophy was presented to the winning team by L&C President James Keeley.

James said: “It was a really good day and well attended with most players and officials bringing their famiy down to enjoy the occasion.

“The mini-tournament was a great idea, food and drinks were all available throughout the day and there was a great atmosphere.

“There was a raffle, in which John Melia won a top prize, and a full curry buffet put on by the club sponsor Namaste Nepal and live music which went on throughout the day.

“The league officials gave their thanks to club chairman Ben Wordsworth who is stepping down from the role but will still be involved with the club and his successor is first team captain Martin O’Reagan.”
