Vikings and Fitton Hill Reach Cup Finals

Two further cup finalists were confirmed as Fitton Hill All-Stars and Newton Vikings won their respective cup semi-finals.

In the Wray Cup, Fitton Hill were faced with a difficult task as the Division Three outfit took on Moston Brook Reserves who are second in Division Two and well placed to achieve promotion. But they were shocked by Fitton Hill who edged home 2-1 to set up a final against Saddleworth 3D.

There were no giant killing antics in the Whitehead Cup as Division A Newton Vikings were ruthless in their 7-0 victory over Division B’s AFC Oldham A.  

Vikings were three to the good within 20 minutes through Jimmy Smith, Kian Larkin and Nick Summer, and they pressed on to ease to a clash with Signol Athletic at West Didsbury and Chorlton FC on April 21.

A delayed Rhodes Cup tie saw East Manchester Galaxy return to action with a hard-fought 2-0 win at Rochdalians.

Muhamed Jaffa relaxed some Galaxy nerves with a late first-half strike and he added his second to put them in control as the Galaxy defence had to work hard against a determined Rochdalians to keep a clean sheet with MoM Klevi Chysea outstanding at the heart of the defence.

In the Geoff Garnett Cup, there was a win for Stretford Paddock Ams in a local derby at Trafford United.

It went to the wire of a penalty shoot-out with full time ending locked at 3-3 before Paddock edged the penalty shoot-out 3-2.

In the other Geoff Garnett Cup game, Santos were too hot to handle beating Bury Ams 8-2.

There was one encounter in the Keith Marsden Cup and a ten-goal thriller ended at 6-4 for AFC Salford against Silver Birch.

There were three games in the Premier Division affecting the title race as leaders Bollington United remained top after a gritty 1-0 local derby win over Richmond Rovers.

AFC Oldham stay three points behind Bollington with a game in hand and they also had to work hard for a 2-1 win at Boothstown.

No problems for third-placed Rushford Park who eased home 5-1 at Chadderton Cott and they have vital games in hand on their title rivals.

In Division One Oldham Hulmeians showed their title intent as they stay top of the table with a win over Mellor.

It was only 1-0 to Hulmeians at the break but they stepped it up in the second half to end up 6-3 winners.

Grappenhall were also comfortable winners hosting Withington Wanderers with a 5-0 win moving them out of the bottom two.

Village Manchester are on a good run of form which they maintained in a 3-1 win over second placed Didsbury to keep on the heels of the leading group.

The top game in Division Two saw leaders Moorside hosting third-placed Manchester Rovers.

A tight game saw Moorside win 3-2 with strikes from Jason Evans, Liam Maher backed by the winner from Harley Hughes.

The other games in the division saw Elton Fold beat Abacus Media Reserves in an entertaining encounter, Heywood St James Reserves triumphed 3-0 at South Manchester and Old Alts Thirds enjoyed one of their best results of the season sharing eight goals with high-flying Saddleworth 3D.

Waterhead lead the way in Division Three and stay six points clear of Didsbury with a 4-2 win over Moston Brook Thirds while Didsbury kept in touch with a hard-earned 3-2 win over Trafford United.

Timperley Villa were far too hot to handle in a big win over lowly AFC Stockport Warriors.

With Division A leaders AFC Salford in cup action, second-placed Signol Athletic closed the gap to five points with four games in hand thanks to a comfortable 6-1 win at Cheadle and Gatley.

Stoconians Reserves missed a chance to close the gap on non-playing Division B leaders Oldham Hulmeians Reserves as they were edged out 2-1 by Santos u23 but Waterhead Reserves improved their chances of catching the leaders with a 2-0 win over Richmond Rovers Reserves which keeps them in third place.
