L&C Teams Progress in Manchester Amateur Cup

A busy day of Manchester County Cup competitions and league fixtures saw many of the games scheduled to be played on grass washed out by Storm Amy.

The postponed fixtures in the cup competitions will be scheduled to be played this coming weekend giving fixtures secretary Malc Kershaw a busy time changing the planned busy programme.

In the Manchester Amateur Cup there was a fine win for Stretford Paddock Amateurs at Egerton Reserves who edged a dramatic penalty shoot-out 2-1 after a 1-1 deadlock in normal time.

They were joined in the next round by Konger who enjoyed an efficient 2-0 victory against Trafford United Reserves.

Rushford Park Reserves secured progress in a thriller at AFC Oldham in an end-to-end encounter that finished 3-3, but Rushford Park prevailed 5-4 on penalties.

A local derby at Saddleworth 3D reserves saw Waterhead Reserves race into a 4-0 interval lead followed by two unanswered second–half strikes to cruise into round two.

However, Chadderton Cott weren’t so lucky in the Manchester Challenge Trophy, and went out 3-0 at West Didsbury and Chorlton Reserves.

There were three games in the Premier Division which supplied 19 goals.

Leaders Bollington United were upset at Manchester Rose, going down 5-2 in an excellent game on a perfect grass surface at St Bede’s College with Rose delighted at picking up their first points of the season.

There was another thriller at Rushford Park, again on a superb grass surface, which saw two good teams on scintillating form.

Park just had the edge throughout the game against Boothstown and despite conceding early, eventually edged a 10-goal thriller 6-4.

The other game saw AFC Oldham win 2-0 at Richmond Rovers.

Just one game beat the weather in Division One and after taking an early lead Withington Wanderers were hit hard by a predatory Oldham Hulmeians who moved into third place in the table with 5-1 win.

Division Two was also reduced to a single game and it saw Tintwistle Athletic Reserves prevent Manchester Rovers from hitting top spot as they picked up their first point of the season with a resilient 1-1 draw.

Two games were played in Division Three and leaders Timperley Villa preserved their 100% record with a comfortable 3-0 win at Manchester Saints.

The local derby at AFC Stockport Warriors saw Stoconians move into second spot in the table with a 6-2 romp.

In Division A leaders Signol Athletic dropped their first points of the season as fine defending by AFC Stockport Titans held them to a 1-1 draw.

In Division B Stoconians Reserves made it a good day for the club as they increased their lead at the top to four points with a hard-fought 2-0 win at Moston Brook Fourths, though second-placed Santos u23’s have two games in hand.
