Grappenhall Take Another Top Flight Scalp

Cup action continued over the weekend and the Rhodes Cup saw an eye-catching display from Grappenhall Sports Club who belied their Division One status to put Premier Division Boothstown to the sword 6-2 thanks to a clinic of ruthless finishing. Their reward is a home tie with Manchester Rose.


There were no such problems for Premier Division high-flyers Chadderton Cott who comfortably saw off Mellor 5-2.


In the Geoff Garnett Cup, there was a tense encounter at Manchester South End with their game against Oldham Hulmeians ending locked at 2-2 with Hulmeians winning the penalty shoot-out 5-4. Hulmeians were indebted to Brian Jones and Connor Roberts who netted in normal time.


In Wray Cup action, Trafford United Reserves put aside their relegation struggles to eliminate Division Two Bury Ams in a dramatic penalty shootout. After the game ended 1-1, the visitors prevailed 6-5 on penalties.


Moorside swept aside fellow Division Two outfit Konger 4-0 to serenely progress.


In the Whitehead Cup, Signol Athletic were unstoppable in their local derby with Division B leaders Stoconians Reserves with a 7-0 win.


In a pair of encounters pitting fellow Division B teams against each other, Didsbury thirds were also on form in a 6-3 win over Richmond Rovers Reserves and AFC Oldham A won a gritty local derby at Saddleworth 3D Reserves 2-1.


Just one game played in the RFAITS Premier Division with Bedians bouncing back from last week’s shock Rhodes Cup defeat to edge a 2-1 win over Richmond Rovers and move into fourth place.


In the solitary Division One game, AFC Stockport secured an impressive 5-2 victory over Santos.


Although Santos drew first blood, Ethan Yilmaz quickly restored parity and the hosts showed their fighting spirit as their visitors once again edged ahead to level through the speedy Ollie Swales.

They didn’t look back and three unanswered goals secured the win.


Division Two had a couple of exciting games with Tintwistle Athletic Reserves winning a thriller 5-4 at Abacus Media Reserves while South Manchester defeated a hard-working Old Alts Thirds 4-3.


There was a shock for Division Three leaders Fitton Hill All-Stars who went down 3-1 to Moston Brook Thirds, with all goals coming in the second half.


Unbeaten Waterhead closed the gap on the leaders to five points with five games in hand with a big win over AFC Stockport Warriors.


Spurley Hey shared the spoils in a 1-1 draw with Timperley Villa and Altrincham Hale Thirds won a mid-table contest at Stoconians 3-0.

The Division A tussle between Newton Viking and Cheadle and Gatley ended 3-3 which leaves the visitors nine points behind the leaders with three games in hand.  


Goals galore in the two games in Division B as Cavaliers pulled off their best-ever win beating Manchester Victoria 12-3 and Oldham Hulmeians Reserves were also on fire with a big 8-4 derby win at Waterhead Reserves.
