Signol Make Second Final in Memorable Season

Signol Athletic’s dream week continued as they reached the Keith Marsden Cup Final in by dramatically beating AFC Salford on penalties.

Fresh from securing the Whitehead Cup, Signol could make it a memorable treble given they are well placed to secure the Division A title.

They secured their spot in a second domestic cup final of the season when, after drawing 3-3 with AFC Salford, they edged the shootout 5-3 to set up a meeting with Newton Vikings in the final.

In league action, the top two Premier Division sides clashed as leaders Bollington came up against second-place Rushford Park who were well placed to cut the gap at the top after racing into a 3-1 lead but Bollington displayed their fighting spirit to secure a crucial draw.

Rushford will be disappointed to lose that lead but their destiny remains in their hands as they stay four points behind Bollington with two games in hand.

There was plenty of league action in midweek and the weekend and in the Premier division there was a crunch match between leaders Bollington United and Rushford Park.

The other game in the Premier division between Chadderton Cott and Richmond Rovers also ended at 3-3.

In Division One, there was one midweek fixture and a 5-1 win for Didsbury over AFC Stockport saw them continue their chase of non-playing leaders Oldham Hulmeians and East Manchester Galaxy.

East recovered well from their Rhodes Final heartbreak to win 2-1 at Grappenhall SC and close the gap on Hulmeians to four points with four games in hand.

The other game in the division saw Village Manchester keep their run of good form with a 4-2 win at AFC Stockport.

Long-time Division Two leaders Moorside clinched the title with a 4-2 win at Konger, secured through Joe Fagan’s brace, as well as Jason Evans and Keiran Thomasson strikes that registered an 18th win of the campaign. They were presented with the title at the end of the game by L&C Chairman Mike Yates.

The other games on the day saw Abacus Media Reserves notch a 4-3 win over Old StretsGregs and Elton Fold won their local derby with Bury Ams by 5-2.

There were four midweek games in Division Two with wins for Heywood St James Reserves 2-1 over Moston Brook Reserves, Manchester Rovers 4-0 at Old Alts thirds, Old StretsGregs beat South Manchester 5-3 and Elton Fold won 4-1 at Saddleworth 3D.

In Division Three, Waterhead moved to within touching distance of the title with clinical 6-3 win over Spurley Hey.

Their only rivals are Fitton Hill AllStars who cruised to a 4-0 win over Didsbury Reserves.

The other game was a 2-2 deadlock between Trafford United Reserves and Moston Brook Thirds.

In Division B, Oldham Hulmeians are the new champions after a 6-1 win over Didsbury A made them untouchable by Stoconians Reserves who were held 4-4 by Saddleworth 3D Reserves.

The other game saw AFC Oldham A win 4-0 at Manchester Victoria and the only midweek game had Richmond Rovers winning 6-2 at Cavaliers.
